Why You Should Consider An EV Charger For Your Car

  • Written by NewsServices.com

If you own an electric vehicle (EV), you should seriously consider purchasing a home EV charger. Why? Because with an EV charger you will no longer have to worry about charging your car at public charging stations. You'll have unlimited access to charging whenever you like, wherever you live! If you're not sold on the idea of having unlimited power access. Here are few reasons why you should consider an EV charger for your car:

What are EV Chargers?

EV Chargers are the basic building blocks of any electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, and they take the form of either a DC or AC charger. The difference between the two is that DC EV chargers use direct current (DC) to charge an EV's battery, while AC EV chargers use alternating current (AC).

Both types of EV chargers can be installed in public places or at home, and they can charge a car either by plugging in overnight or using an adapter to plug into a regular household outlet.

Charging levels

EV Chargers come in a variety of charging levels that would be perfect for you electric cars.

Level 1 - Portable EVSE

Level 1 - Portable EVSE is the simplest, most affordable way to charge your electric vehicle. It only requires a standard household outlet and includes a 16-foot cord that allows you to charge your car in any parking spot. The Level 1 - Portable EVSE is perfect for those who want the freedom to charge their car wherever they go, but don't need the extra power of a Level 2 charger.

Level 2 - Wall Chargers

Level 2 wall chargers are the most common type of electric car charger. They can be plugged into a standard 120-volt outlet and provide an output of up to 240 volts of electricity. Level 2 chargers have a maximum power rating of 32 amps, meaning they can deliver up to 48 kilowatts of energy per hour to your car's battery pack.

Level 2 charging stations can be installed at home or work and are available in a variety of styles and sizes. Some models are designed to be permanently mounted on the wall, while others are made especially for use in the trunk of your vehicle. In order to use a level 2 charger, you will need an adapter that connects your car's charging port to the plug on the end of the cord coming from the charger itself which should be installed by a qualified electrician. This adapter is known as an EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment), and it comes with most new electric vehicles.

Level 3 - DC Fast Chargers

DC Fast Chargers are electric vehicle (EV) charging stations that can charge a vehicle battery to 80 percent capacity in about 20 minutes. These chargers have a much faster charging speed than Level 2 chargers, which typically take about 4-6 hours to fully charge a vehicle.

The DC Fast Charger system uses an alternating current at high voltage to charge the batteries in less than an hour. This is much faster than the normal charging time for most electric vehicles, which can take up to 10 hours to charge fully. The DC Fast Charger system operates at a maximum of 350 volts and requires a special adapter that connects cars with different types of plugs.

Conclusion

Hopefully, you are now a lot more confident about the prospect of installing an electric vehicle charger at your home. If you’re sold on the idea and want to get started, the web is a good place to locate everything you need. Keep in mind, it’s important to educate yourself about EV charging and plan out your installation before you dive in. Once that’s done, though, you should be able to get everything connected in no time at all.
